Crochet Parrot, Budgeriger and Lark

This pattern is for a parrot, but you can also make other birds such as a budgerigar or a lark. To make the budgerigar, follow the instructions with green and follow the instructions with brown to make a lark.

Cut yarn and fasten off

Now for the face. Yoy should embroder the eyes and the beak with black yarn – make a yellow beak for the lark -, as shown in the pictures. Use white yarn to make the top of the beak.

WINGS (Make 2) – RED:

For the budgerigar start with green yarn

For the lark start with baige yarn


1. rnd                    6 sc in mr (6)

2. rnd                    ⌈inc, sc, inc⌉2x (10)

3. rnd                    sc all the way around (10)

4. rnd                    ⌈4 sc, inc⌉2x (12)

5. rnd                    ⌈inc, 5 sc⌉2x (14)

6. rnd                    sc all the way around (14)

Fold the work together and make 7 sc througt the stitches on both sides to close it (7), turn with 1 ch

Now you are working in rows.

1. row                    6 sc, inc (8), turn with 1 ch

2.-3 row                8 sc (8), turn with 1 ch

CS blue   No CS for the budgerigar or the lark

Now it´s time for the feathers

1. feather                Make 13 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 12 sc, sc in the same stitch you started in.

2. feather               sc, make 12 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 11 sc, sc in the same stitch you started in.

CS yellow –  No CS for the budgerigar or the lark

3. feathe                   sc, make 11 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 10 sc, sc in the same stitch you started in.

4. feather                 sc, make 10 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 9 sc, sc in the same stitch you started in.

5. feather                  sc, make 9 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 8 sc, sc in the same stitch you started in.

CS blue –  No CS for the budgerigar or the lark

6. feather                  sc, make 8 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 7 sc, sc in the same stitch you started in.

Cut yarn and fasten off

Sew the wings on to the body as shown in the picture.

TAIL (Parrot) – RED:


1. row                    Make 5 ch, turn

2. row                    Begin in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 4 sc (4), turn with 1 ch

3.-4. row               4 sc (4), turn with 1 ch

5. row                    inc, 2 sc, inc (6), turn with 1 ch

6. row                    6 sc (6), turn with 1 ch

7. row                    inc, 4 sc, inc (8), turn with 1 ch

CS blue

Now for the feathers.

1.-4. feather                   Make 11 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 10 sc, fsc in the same stitch you started in.

CS yellow

5.-7. feather                   Make 11 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 10 sc, fsc in the same stitch you started in.

8. feather                       Make 11 ch, turn, start in the 2. stitch from the needle and make 10 sc, fsc in the same stitch you started in.

Cut yarn and fasten off

Sew the tail on to the body as shown in the picture.

7.-16 rnd                sc all the way around (8)

Now you are working in rows.

1. row                      Fold the work together and make 4 sc through the stitches to close it (4), turn with 1 ch

2. row                      inc, 2 sc, inc (6), turn with 1 ch

3. row                      inc, 4 sc, inc (8), turn with 1 ch

Cut yarn and fasten off

Sew the tail on to the body.

3.-4. roe                         sc all the way around (6), turn with 1 ch

5. row                             dec, 2 sc, dec (4), turn with 1 ch

6. row                             ⌈dec⌉x2 (2), turn with 1 ch

7. row                              dec (1)

Cut yarn and fasten off

Sew the tail on to the body.
